Emeralds

emerald eyes burning

the sleeping reptile caverns deep

walls scaled with limestone

thick in steam of lava pools

birthplace of nightmare thoughts

 

stirring darkness

the creature wakes

gathering strength

and growing fire

 

heat licks melting walls

tunnels collapse in mighty rapids

torchlight from a hillside

calling out your name

 

the surface tension cracks

flame leaps from the ground

the beast forcing a new path

hidden vaults open

in a whirlpool of mud
