Bad Timing

"dam that alarm!"

as you slam your fist

on the blaring menace

 

crawl into your clothes

and put on your shoes

                                before your pants

 

"damn!"

 

and finally open your eyes

                                      to stay awake

turn on the light

 

brush your hair and forget your teeth

put your books in a bag

but leave out that French

                                    that you didn't do

it's a good excuse

 

"damn!"

 

and find out

                  while you peer in the darkness

that it's only 5 A.M.

and your alarm clock has broken

                                              again
